With a career spanning more than three decades, Ross Woods has spent his life bringing stories to life through video, animation, visual effects, and sound. As Director of Video Services at Ferguson, he leads a talented team of creatives dedicated to producing compelling visual content that informs, inspires and connects with audiences.
Ross’s passion for video and animation began early. Growing up in a family involved in the industry, he spent countless hours on sets and around creative professionals, developing an appreciation for storytelling long before it became his career. He began working professionally in the mid-1990s in Chicago, contributing to television commercials, corporate videos and entertainment programming for nationally recognized brands and networks including Gatorade, McDonald’s, Caterpillar, HBO, ESPN and TLC.
Throughout his career, Ross has built expertise across nearly every aspect of the production process. Before joining Ferguson, he led the motion graphics and visual effects division of a large post-production facility serving clients in Chicago and Santa Monica. In 2010, he joined Scofield Digital Storytelling, the award-winning video production company that later became part of Ferguson through its 2021 partnership. Since joining the organization, he has helped expand the agency’s video and animation capabilities while guiding projects from concept to final delivery.
Ross studied Film and Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His leadership style is rooted in helping others succeed, fostering collaboration and creating an environment where great ideas can thrive. His Clifton Strengths include Achiever, Relator, Developer, Maximizer and Harmony.
Family, creativity and lifelong learning are at the center of Ross’s life outside the office. He enjoys supporting his wife, a dedicated educator, and staying involved in his children’s school activities, including coaching CYO sports. When he’s not behind a camera or in an editing suite, you’ll likely find him following Chicago sports, fishing or making music. A multi-instrumentalist who plays drums, guitar and piano, Ross has performed live across the country and contributed to a number of album recordings over the years.
